In this step-by-step course, Patti will guide you on creating a unique and charming pocket folio art journal that’s as practical as it is beautiful. It’s perfect for keeping yourself, or for gifting to someone who will treasure something handmade.

These journals are wonderfully versatile. Use yours as a travel journal, a gardening log, a diary, an art paper organizer, or a place to collect thoughts, sketches, and inspiration. Once you learn the process, you’ll quickly discover that one journal is never enough. You’ll be dreaming up new sizes, styles, and variations in no time.

We’ll begin with an unexpected starting point: a 10” x 13” packing envelope. Patti will demonstrate how to deconstruct it and transform this everyday material into the sturdy foundation of your journal. From there, the real fun begins as we explore paper choices. Handmade paper, wrapping paper, mulberry paper, this is where your personality and style shine through.

Throughout this course you will learn how to:

  • Choose the best hand-made art papers
  • Successfully deconstruct the envelope
  • Size and adhere the paper to the envelope
  • Basic bookbinding skills
  • Create multiple signatures (pages) into the book

Patti Euler

Patti Euler is the owner, driving force, and creative spirit behind The Queen’s Ink, a unique retail shop and studio overflowing with the finest in mixed media arts supplies, paints, papers, and much more, meant to inspire creativity in all who enter her royal domain. She also is an artist who is always passing on the skills she has developed to others, and exploring new mediums and techniques within her own work. Patti’s goal is to help people “Refine their technique and transform their art” by acting as a catalyst for artists, from the novice to the skilled artisan.

Following a 27-year corporate career as a National Account Manager for AT&T and Lucent technologies, she turned her attention to the role of creative entrepreneur and visionary. Her personal artwork has evolved over the years by exploring and finding opportunities to make unexpected, creative pieces, using unusual materials, and quirky found objects. She has won awards for her ManneqArt sculptures, and has had work featured at the Ocean City Arts Center. Methods employed in these pieces have brought a new energy and excitement to Patti’s mixed media art journey. Patti is also a Golden Artists Educator.
