Create Arts Online is excited to present Sunny Carvalho in her highly sought after online journey into freehand stitching and drawing with your sewing machine.
Before you begin this fun and creative adventure, Sunny highly recommends watching her “Character Drawing” online course if you do not already draw your own characters. Sunny’s “Character Drawing” course can be purchased separately or as part of a bundle option with this course.
Sunny intentionally titled this course “The Free Hand” to share how she has developed this method of drawing her unique and expressive characters intuitively with a sewing machine and thread.
Sunny’s signature technique of creating with fabric, thread, and a sewing machine is a one of a kind technique. Sunny has never taught this in a live setting and is so excited to finally be able to share it with all her eager and enthusiastic students. You will have an “over shoulder” view with a very detailed and close up perspective. She shares the step-by-step process of how she creates her characters on the sewing machine, and you will not miss a stitch.
Sunny starts with the type of fabrics and supplies she prefers, including her favorite threads. You will watch in real time as Sunny shares many tips and tricks on how each part of the process can be a success. Sunny starts with demonstrating a “practice section” to help you get warmed up. Once you are ready to start sewing your characters, Sunny breaks down this process to give you the most gratifying and achievable experience!
In the end you will be creating both finished pieces and decorative elements. The designs are limitless and addictive!
Sunny includes a list of her favorite tools, materials, and resources as well as a step-by-step PDF of how she creates her felted wool.
Love taking classes with Sunny!! I call this piece “test pilot” All that I learned in class. Thank you!! Ren F.
Your Instructor
Sunny Carvalho is a mixed media artist living in Pinson, Alabama amid the chaos of too many art supplies. Focusing on functional yet whimsical ceramic ware, hand-sculpted ceramic pendants, freehand stitched characters and mixed media paintings, her quirky characters have found their way into many of the mixed media magazines and books. With an emphasis on the joy of everyday living, her work reflects the humor and oddity of the unique characters residing in her head as they deal with pets, situations, and each other. She began her mixed media career as an instructor with Artfest (a groundbreaking retreat near Seattle that launched the careers of many internationally known artists and had it's final retreat in 2012). Sunny continues to teach live but is thrilled to partner with Create Arts Online and bring her signature works to an online platform.
