Create Arts Online is excited to present a very unique and creative online course, “Watercolor Absurdity with Sunny Carvalho.” This is a great way for a beginner or someone with experience to dive in using Sunny’s approach to creating whimsical characters with watercolors.

Sunny starts by sharing her “idea journal,” a place where she jots down all of the ideas that come to her creative mind. Once she decides which characters she will draw and paint, the fun begins. Unlike Sunny's in-person workshop, you will watch in real time as Sunny paints and creates a variety of her characters througout this course. Once you have learned Sunny’s techniques you will be able to add your creative voice to your own characters. Sunny shares her favorite paper, paints, dip pens, and other instruments as she demonstrates how to use them. Sunny will also share some of the tricks she has up her sleeve.

If you have not purchased Sunny’s “Character Drawing” online course, we highly recommend you start there if you do not draw your own characters already. You can purchase a bundle version of the two courses together for a special price.

Sunny Carvalho is a mixed media artist living in Pinson, Alabama amid the chaos of too many art supplies. Focusing on functional yet whimsical ceramic ware, hand-sculpted ceramic pendants, freehand stitched characters and mixed media paintings, her quirky characters have found their way into many of the mixed media magazines and books. With an emphasis on the joy of everyday living, her work reflects the humor and oddity of the unique characters residing in her head as they deal with pets, situations, and each other. She began her mixed media career as an instructor with Artfest (a groundbreaking retreat near Seattle that launched the careers of many internationally known artists and had it's final retreat in 2012). Sunny continues to teach live but is thrilled to partner with Create Arts Online and bring her signature works to an online platform.
