Have you ever gathered beautiful papers, lace, or meaningful fragments… only to hesitate?
Unsure how to bring them together?
Worried that once you use them, they’re gone forever?
Or perhaps you’ve started a collage before, but it never quite felt cohesive, meaningful, or finished?
You’re not alone. And this is exactly what this course, Echoes of the Soul with Dee Gray, is here to gently guide you through.
Join Dee Gray of Gathered Curiosities for a beautifully introspective journey into the art of collage, where memory, texture, and quiet storytelling come together in the most meaningful way.
Collage is more than an art form; it’s a way of gathering fragments of the past and transforming them into something deeply personal.
In Echoes of the Soul, you’ll explore this timeless practice through a soft, vintage-inspired lens. Using timeworn papers, delicate lace, muted tones, and evocative portrait imagery by Gale Blair of PaperWhimsy, you’ll begin to create work that feels layered, soulful, and uniquely your own.
As your collage unfolds, you’ll find yourself weaving together textures, imagery, and meaningful words, each layer holding a quiet echo of story and intention.
✨ In this course, you will learn how to:
- Create beautifully aged papers using coffee staining techniques for warmth and antique patina
- Build rich, harmonious layered backgrounds with depth and cohesion
- Work intuitively with vintage materials, lace, and found elements
- Introduce focal imagery with intention and balance
- Incorporate meaningful words and phrases to enhance storytelling
- Develop a soft, muted color palette that evokes a sense of time and nostalgia
- Refine your composition with thoughtful finishing details
- Mount your completed collage onto a solid matte board
- Prepare and frame your artwork for a polished, display-ready finish
This is an invitation to slow down.
To create with intention.
To listen inward as much as you look outward.
Because this is a recorded online course, you’re free to move at your own pace, pause, rewind, revisit, and return whenever inspiration calls. There is no rush here. Only space to explore, layer, and discover.
Before you begin, we encourage you to watch the full course, download your supply list, and gather materials that speak to you. Prepare a workspace that feels inviting, somewhere you can settle in and create without distraction.
Because in the end, collage is not about perfection.
It’s about piecing together fragments of beauty…and allowing them to quietly speak.
Dee has included a suggested list of materials and resources to help you get started.
Your Instructor
Dee Gray is a mixed-media artist, creative director, and art instructor whose work is rooted in nostalgia, storytelling, and the beauty of timeworn treasures. Through her artistic brand, Gathered Curiosities™, she creates soulful works assembled from found objects, vintage remnants, nature, and forgotten fragments of the past.
A lifelong gatherer of curious things, Dee is drawn to rust, patina, tarnished metals, faded papers, antique imagery, weathered textiles, and objects that carry a sense of history. Her work often incorporates vintage jewelry, old photographs, ephemera, antique lace, Frozen Charlotte dolls, worn trophies, salvaged metals, dried botanicals, and meaningful keepsakes reimagined into one-of-a-kind art pieces.
Her collection includes vintage-inspired collages, mosaic vessels, healing houses, slow-stitched fabric art, glass cloches, and assemblages inspired by another era. Each piece is thoughtfully layered with texture, symbolism, and heartfelt messages intended to resonate deeply with the collector.
Nature also plays an important role in Dee’s creative process. She is continually inspired by organic textures, aged surfaces, and the quiet poetry found in imperfect things. Her work celebrates the connection between memory, healing, nature, and personal reflection.
In addition to creating artwork, Dee travels nationally and internationally, teaching mixed-media workshops and retreats, encouraging others to embrace creativity, intuition, and meaningful self-expression through art.
The work of Gathered Curiosities offers more than handmade art — it invites discovery, nostalgia, and emotional connection. Each creation is intended to feel as though it has been lovingly unearthed from a forgotten attic, old garden cottage, or cherished family collection.
